Food Security & Community Gardens
The Community Gardens Project – Sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Career Pathways Program at Kauai Community College, it provides training classes and technical support to individuals seeking to start a home garden and/or to groups planning to develop a community garden to serve their neighborhood. Phone Glenn Hontz EdD at 246-4859 or hontz@hawaii.edu
Kalaheo Neighborhood Center Cooperative Community Garden Program (CCGP) – County Parks & Recreation and Kauai Community College have joined together to foster home gardens and cooperative community gardening. Contact Neil Brosnahan at 346-8460 or email: brosnahan77@msn.com.
Kekaha Community Garden - Communal gardening, no individual plots; monthly membership fees plus two hours/week minimum gardening at the site are required.  Receive weekly box of food; training in organic gardening and other topics available. Contact Diane Rosenkranz, Garden Coordinator at 651-5197 or kekahagarden@gmail.com
Kilauea Community Garden - There are 48 15’x20’ plots. Waipa Foundation, Hanalei - Within the 1,600 acre ahupua’a of Waipa there are three garden sites that are part of Waipa’s Ahupua`a Learning Center featuring programs for creating and restoring wetland and dryland farming areas for kalo and other crops-for food, cultural practice, and other uses.  Waipa Garden has canoe plants and many established natives which serve as both demonstration and seed source for propagation and outplanting. Waipa lo`i, is two acres of kalo and experiments with more organic and sustainable practices. Field O Dreams is an organic vegetable garden with lettuces, kale, chard, tomatoes, eggplant, herbs and more that are prepared and consumed within programs and/or sold at farmers market. Office Phone: 826-9969; Email: info@waipafoundation.org; Website: http://www.waipafoundation.org/projects.php
