From 2003 through August 2008, Kauai Planning & Action Alliance worked closely with the County of Kauai’s anti-drug efforts, launched by the late Mayor Bryan Baptiste. The goal was to create a plan with a multi-faceted approach to reduce the use of drugs on Kauai. KPAA facilitated the work of the four committees – drug prevention, enforcement, treatment and community integration – and the Drug Action Team, composed of representatives of all four committees, and worked closely with the County’s Anti-Drug Coordinator.
KPAA wrote the County’s first Kauai Community Drug Response Plan 2004-2009 and over the next 5 years worked with the committees as the plan was implemented. In August 2008 a new plan was completed by KPAA with the help of the committees and more than 70 volunteers.
The result is the Kauai Community Drug Response Plan 2008-2013. The plan is available to download.
The new Kauai Community Drug Response Plan is a comprehensive, integrated plan that encompasses the elements of drug prevention, enforcement, treatment and community integration. The plan includes strategies for implementation, overall coordination, specific three-year action plans, and a vision of Kauai in five years.
KPAA prepared progress reports on the implementation of the first plan and these were presented to the community at annual drug summits. The most recent Year Three Report is available to download.
