Kalalau Trail - Introduction

Work improving the Kalalau Trail between Ke`e Beach and Hanakapi`ai Beach is well under way, using funds awarded to KPAA by the Hawai`i State Legislature.  KPAA has contracted with Pono Pacific Land Management, LLC, and currently a crew of five is actively employed in trail building under Charlie Cobb-Adams’ supervision, the proprietor of Native Hawaiian Conservation and Hiking Expeditions.

The Friends of Kalalau Trail organize twice-a-month volunteer trail rehabilitation workdays. Community members are also contributing their expertise to help assure the best possible long-term results from the State’s investment in the Kalalau Trail Restoration and Reconstruction project. Citizens’ Advisory Committee member Suzanne Marinelli composed these five vignettes that convey her impression the volunteerism that sustains this world-renowned trail.
