The Process

The plan took 15 months to develop and suggests goals and implementation guidelines for the next 20 years. The following description and timeline explain the overall approach:

Community Input
Stakeholder and community input was collected through a total of 15 meetings located around Kaua`i. The outcomes from 10 stakeholder meetings fed into five community meetings, which were held April 30 through May 13, 2009.

Energy Analysis
An in-depth analysis of Kaua`i’s energy use baselines and patterns, and renewable energy potential was conducted.

Report Development
The community/stakeholder input was integrated with the energy analysis to produce a draft plan. This plan was presented to the community for input in January 2010 through a “webinar” (an online seminar). There was an opportunity for public feedback and comments (via phone or e-mail) through February 16 for consideration for the final report. The final plan was completed in May 2010.

Implementation
After the final plan was released, the SENTECH Hawai`i Team handed off the plan for implementation by Kaua`i County and the private sector.
