Community Indicators

Through the exploration of and reporting on 57 indicators that matter most to Kaua‘i, KPAA and its project partners identify, measure, track and report on indicators that explore the quality of life on the Garden Isle, the strength of Kaua‘i’s economy, and the health of its environment.  Indicators provide important snapshots reflecting how the community is progressing in a variety of dimensions.  The first bi-annual report was issued in June 2007; the second edition was released in July 2009.

The purpose of the indicators project is to:

§ Track areas important to the community, drawing on the values and vision in the Kaua`i General Plan 2000, to determine Kaua`i’s trends.

§ Provide tracked information to government, businesses and nonprofit organizations to assist in planning, policy-setting and budget decisions.

§ Identify and promote opportunities for action that will move Kaua`i toward the vision and directions the community has established.

Indicators provide a snapshot of how a community is doing. For Kauai, seven areas were selected: 1) economic and business climate; 2) public education; 3) neighborhood and community well-being; 4) civic engagement; 5) natural environment; 6) land use and rural character; and 7) cultures and arts.
